Children are one of lifes Greatest blessings!!

I just had to share this its so sweet!! On facebook there are these funny little "quizzes" or whatever you want to call them. They are purely for entertainments sake and rightly so. I decided to participate in one recently from called "what big change is coming your way this year" The results showed up that I would have a toddler. Now before you get your suspicions up, there is no way on earth that I am pregnant!! I would have to be in my second trimester for that to be happen and that's not possible let alone logical. So don't go crazy peeps!! lol. It's just something fun that made me think a little. Because it is true but just in a different way.

I work with children every single day!! I love them all so much!! I have learned so much from them and have been lead by their beautiful sweet examples!! In my journey of life I have been able to work as a swim instructor for 3 years now and I am going onto year 4!! I love it :) This past year at college I was able to broaden my horizons by getting a job in college working with Kindergartners to Eighth graders. Its was such a blessing to work with those kids! To watch them grow was amazing!! If they struggled with something and then got some help to figure things out, it was almost magical to watch them understand and comprehend what they were trying to accomplish. It was beautiful!! I know I grew along side those children and was able to learn the new things with them :) I am excited to continue my journey again in August when school starts again, working with the same job as last year and continuing on teaching swim lessons as well.
Children are a blessing in my life. I recently was put into the Nursery as my church calling and I love it!! I honestly don't understand why some people don't like being with such sweet spirits!! Yes, you can learn more from a 16 month old child than you could from the smartest college professor sometimes!!! The sweetest most purest learning comes from children. Do we treat the children we deal with like they deserve the right to learn? The right to teach? How do we treat our children? I know that sometimes yes it's extremely frustrating!!! There's no way on earth that I am anywhere near the perfect person just ask my parents lol. There are times when I should really take a step back and see things from their perspectives but I don't. But I do know that I can be better and I know that it's not that hard to at least try.

I know that children want to be just like us because we are their role models! They look up to us both figuratively and literally!! How do we treat that much admiration?!?! I love children so much!! I am grateful for my jobs that I have had/ still have that helped me to understand children better. And I am so grateful for my siblings Russell and Emma for loving me even when it's tough loving a stubborn older sister. My family situation is unique, I am 12 years older than my brother and 14 years older than my sister. As a family we have had to grow and learn new things along side the little ones. It's not easy. No where in the "Book of Life" does it say life is easy. But I know that we can all personally make it worth it!!!

Life is worth living and if you don't realize this, then here is me telling you that it so is!!! Being apart of a young child's life is so special! If you don't have children think again, that little girl down the block riding her bike past your house is watching you. The little boy that knocks on your door to bring you a treat is watching you. Those rambunctious kids that roll past your house in the middle of the street are watching you. That shy child in your class is watching you. The kid that's staring at you in the grocery store is watching you. The child in the car next to you at the stop light/sign is watching you. There is always someone watching you and your example helps shape them into who they will become. Our choices and actions have domino effects through several people's lives. We teach others by what we do! Lets try to be the best examples we can be!! Show everyone that we care enough to show them love and encouragement. Be the best person we can be and be willing to learn and grow and be taught.

What if your blessings come through raindrops...

I love this song so much!! It has brought a lot of peace and calm into my life whenever I have needed it. And sometimes even if life isn't that hard it's just so inspirational and uplifting. I have learned so much from this song. I heard this again recently and just had to share. My favorite part of the song is the chorus 'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops, What if Your healing comes through tears? What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near, What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise. This is my all time favorite. Progress and moving forward is different for everyone. It's not all going to be the same for everyone. So don't judge someone when they handle life differently than you.

And to add to this, prayer is so important, when praying we are on the Lords time. Not ours. He sees the bigger picture and knows what's best for us. He only gives us what he KNOWS we CAN handle!!!! We have trials set before us to help us grow and become better than we were, so we can become more like our father in heaven. There was one time just recently where I was asked a question that I had no idea how to answer, so I sent up a quick prayer with the intent that I would be able to answer the question with clarity. I can't tell exactly what was said but the spirit was there and they got the answer that they needed at that time. But I needed to have the faith that Heavenly Father would help me out and help answer this person question.

Trials and healing is different for everyone. So don't worry if Miss Susie Anne got such and such a trial because Heavenly Father knew that she could handle it at the time in her life. And the trials you are going through now? Ya you can get through them, They are there so you can learn and grow. Heavenly Father has given them to you because he knows you are strong enough to grow and learn and push forward!! Keep going don't give up the faith!! You got this!

Blessings By: Laura Story

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not our home

'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise

Don't stop believing because YOU CAN!!

Week 8 Learning with Math!!

Murder Mystery with Math Grades 3 to 5

Problem: A murder has been committed! There are 30 suspects; and one of them is guilty. Using your powers of deduction; can you crack each of the five coded clues to reveal the identity of the killer?

Common Core standard: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Explain the meaning of a problem, look for entry points to begin work on the problem, and plan and choose a solution pathway. When a solution pathway does not make sense, look for another pathway that does. Explain connections between various solution strategies and representations. Upon finding a solution, look back at the problem to determine whether the solution is reasonable and accurate, often checking answers to problems using a different method or approach.

ISTE Standard for Students 1: Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

Plan: Engage the students by sectioning the students into 5 different groups. Each group is given one clue to solve. Once the groups have solved their clue, the students come together and discuss their answers and piece together a solution. This way the students can use each other to bounce ideas off of each other and find a solution that would work in solving the mystery.

1. Clues- the students use different points of views to find answers, includes behavioral patterns of accused guilty, and patterns etc.
2. Calculators- to solve the mathematical portion of the problem to narrow it down to one guilty
3. Projector-display information and helpful hints

Additional Help:

Experience: I have worked with students in group settings and been able pull then back into a big group and been able to help students look at different points of views and see a logical solution and help them understand the answer.

1. Student participation-willingness to participate in a group and share their ideas with the group
2. Understanding of content- do they understand the activity and what it’s trying to teach
3. Ability to work through a similar situation-give then a follow up activity

Week 7 Using a Library blog; Understanding literature and the library.

Target Audience: 4-5 grade students or older can use a blog to communicate and share ideas about books they have read and share meaning of text through format etc.

Students will be able to: Demonstrate knowledge of the physical features (e.g., cover, spine, title page, cursor, scroll bar) of reading materials, both electronic and print. Read, view and listen for information presented in a variety of formats (e.g., textual, visual, media). Identify the elements of story. Identify the roles, tools, and purposes of authors, illustrators, and other contributors for a text. Understand the library layout, the library classification system, and the circulation process. Use selection criteria (e.g., interest, content) when choosing materials for a defined purpose. Select texts from a variety of formats and genres to read for enjoyment, acquire knowledge, and answer questions. Gain understanding and make connections while reading and interacting with text. Demonstrate perseverance and stamina when reading or listening to a variety of texts. Listen to, view, read, and integrate information to build a knowledge base.

Utah Core Standards: Standard 3: Contribute to a reading and learning community, including recommending reading materials to peers and respecting others’ reading choices.

Standard 4 :Make use of personal, community and global libraries, both physical and electronic.

ISTE Standard 7a: Students use digital tools to connect with learners from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, engaging with them in ways that broaden mutual understanding and learning.

Engagement Section: Collaborate with teachers in the school and other schools/districts to set this up. Create a Media Blog that enforces the reading and learning through questions and activities and participation. There will be options for books that they (the students) can choose to read and the students that choose the same books will be in the same reading groups. In their groups, they must read the required reading and update on the blog their thoughts and feelings about the readings. They will do a required weekly quiz which will help the students stay on track and keep up with their readings. The content of the quizzes will include a proficiency of knowledge of the physical features (e.g., cover, spine, title page, cursor, scroll bar) of reading materials, both electronic and print. They will be able to identify the elements of story: roles, tools, and purposes of authors, illustrators, and other contributors for a text. Student will be able to use selection criteria (e.g., interest, content) when choosing materials for a defined purpose. There will be plenty of selected texts from a variety of formats and genres to read for enjoyment, acquire knowledge, and answer questions. The students will gain a greater understanding and make connections while reading and interacting with the text. The students will be able to all of this and can share their knowledge with others who are working in the same texts.

Additional Help: There will be a place on the site where they can ask questions and the teacher(s) will be able to help the students work through what’s confusing. - this site is a library blog and can be made into a reading group blog. It’s been recently created and so I figured that this would be perfect to start something like this for this site.

The students can go to their teachers for help and ask the other students in their groups questions.

They can also look up what things mean.

Experience Section: I have started this blog. It is in the beginning stages of usage and still needs some help with layout and sections where things can be shared etc. I feel this is a great thing to put into place for students. I have considered a little bit more and found that this is something that a couple of teachers have implemented into their classrooms. I asked a couple of teachers from my high school and this is one way that they had discussed putting into place and had a rough draft of the ideas. “I think that this would be a perfect way for students who are reading the same books in different classrooms can share knowledge with each other and get new insights from those in different classes doing the same things” Mrs. Jensen

Assessment: Points will be given for the quizzes for thoroughness and completion. Students need to demonstrate a proficient knowledge of what they are reading. The quizzes will be automatically scored and they will be able to see what their score was.

Students need to also participate in the discussion within their reading groups and contribute to what’s going on. They need to be able to ask questions and get clarification.

Students will also participate in their classrooms and discuss what is new and what they have learned. They will be graded on participation and completion. They will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of what they have been reading.

It's ok to change, but you gotta want it.

To those who had to change: Did you change for you? Did you want the change? Or did you change because they wanted you to? Did they want you to look a certain way or act a certain way? Are you happy? Did the change make you into the person you want to be? Do you want to be this new you? Are you the one making someone change? Are they helping you to become better than you were or not?
Image result for love yourself
If not then some things have to change. Don't let someone dictate how you express yourself! Don't let them decide who you are going to be!!! If you have to change to be with someone then they are not the right someone. You have the freedom to be yourself!!! If they don't build you up and support what you aspire to be, drop them
Image result for love yourself
You deserve someone that respects you for who you are. Someone that will cherish you just the way you are and won't want you to change because you are perfect in their eyes just the way you are. Be with someone that makes you personally want to be better. You want to change for yourself!! Not because you don't fit someones mold of how you are supposed to be. That's not right.
Love yourself and get to know you, and what you want before you change to fit someones ideal person. You are amazing just the way you are. Don't change for someone! change for you!! Love yourself and respect others. Don't make someone change to be with you. And don't change to be with someone. Don't be afraid to be yourself!! Your whole self :) you got this!! If they can't handle you and your awesomeness it's their loss!

Week 6: Online Videos

Watch this: School libraries matter

Each library around the world has their own uniqueness about them. Libraries offer many opportunities for community members to become involved with their programs that they offer. The librarians are always willing to help and give patrons a pleasant experience at the library. I was a part of the Tremonton City Library Teen Advisory Board, which directed activities at or around the library to help involve community members willing to reach out and learn. We planned several fun activities that would engage the community, members could enjoy activities such as talent shows where the reader would choose a character they liked and they were given the opportunity to act out their favorite scene in the book with that character. For the younger children, we would have “Story Time with The Librarian” every week. This was great for children because their parents could browse while their children were listening to the story. The children are able to gain understanding of certain skills that the books teach and would be able to apply these skills in a following activity.
Getting involved at the library will create a better sense of a community unity, friendships are created with all the activities that are available for participation at the library. As well as create friendships, more knowledge is obtained in a friendly way when participating in what activities and adventures the libraries have available. At the library there is something there for everyone!!

As technology has wormed its way into our lives, we see that material is easier to get without having to interact with anyone. The more that libraries are used the less they will seem wasteful. Most libraries have computers that are useful for those with low income and don’t own personal computers. Many people choose to use the computers provided by the library to pay their bills, or apply for new jobs, or to study for their schooling. This is helpful because if someone needs assistance the librarians know how to help because they are trained to deal with situations that arise in the technical settings and offer the best help to the patrons as they can. At Utah State University library, there is a reserve where teachers make sure a copy of the required textbook is available for students who don’t have the finances available to purchase a textbook for the course, because the material offered there is free and available to the public.

Going to the library is important because Libraries matter. There are several benefits of the library and as community members, educators, and students there is so much infromation that can be used that is beneficial and helpful.
